For the first time in its history, the new Audi A3 will be offered as a four-door saloon.
The new A3 saloon will predominantly be aimed at the Russian market, where saloon cars are much more popular than hatchbacks. However, Audi is considering exporting the booted A3 to the UK too.
Traditionally, the VW group haven't had much success with small saloons in the UK. The Golf was always a bigger seller than the Jetta/Vento/Bora and the SEAT Cordoba was never as successful as its hatchback equivalent, the Leon.
The new A3 three-door goes on sale in the UK from September with a choice of 1.4- or 1.8-litre petrol engines or a 2.0-litre turbodiesel. Buyers will be able to choose from three trim levels: SE, Sport and S line, all of which feature different suspension setups and ride heights.
A five-door model will appear next year, along with a more powerful 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.2-litre petrol unit and a plug-in hybrid.
Prices will start from £19,205.
