Aston Martin have used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil their latest contribution to the hugely popular PlayStation racing game Gran Turismo 6.
Aston Martin have designed a stunning new prototype design for Gran Turismo gamers to download from July.
The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo is the result of six months work by an in-house team led by Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman, who hopes some features of the virtual-only car could one day be included on real-world motors.
“DP-100 has been an exciting and intensive project for the team here at Gaydon”, said Reichman. “As with the CC100 Speedster Concept, many of the design cues visible in DP-100, such as the light blade rear lamps, could also feed through into future sports cars that we’ll launch in the offline world so the importance of this project should not be underestimated.”
The 800bhp twin-turbo V12 mid-engined DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo was developed by Aston Martin using many of the processes the company used to develop production cars, with hand sketches followed by 3D modelling and onto computer-aided realisation.
Aston Martin has been a feature of Gran Turismo from the games debut, with the very first edition including the DB7 Coupe and the Volante. Gran Turismo 6 already features the Aston Martin One-77 developed by the company in 2011.
Gran Turismo’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi said of the new DP-100 Virtual Gran Turismo: “When I first came face to face with this car at the Aston Martin Headquarters in Gaydon, UK, I was at a loss for words seeing the level of perfection in its design. Not only that, there was this future Aston Martin in front of me, that was so detailed it could be released on the market pretty much as is.”
