Apple has been named the coolest brand in Britain, knocking last year's winner Aston Martin into third place.

The annual CoolBrands survey claims to highlight the coolest brands in Britain. The survey was launched in 2001 and has been won every year since 2007 by either Aston Martin or an Apple-branded product.

Second on the CoolBrands list was the video-sharing website YouTube, followed by Aston in third place, Twitter in fourth and internet giant Google in fifth.

Rounding out the top ten were BBC iPlayer, Glastonbury, Virgin Atlantic, Bang and Olufsen and department store Liberty.

Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands expert council, said of the results: "It is interesting that in this age of austerity our perception of cool has increasingly shifted from aspirational, luxury brands to free or more affordable brands that provide us with pleasure."
