Up to three years’ free Congestion Charge driving can still be taken advantage of by new Alfa Romeo buyers, providing they register their sub-100g/km CO2 vehicle with the scheme before June 28.
Currently 100g/km CO2 is the maximum emission level at which cars in the UK qualify for free road tax and are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. However, for free Congestion Charge driving this level is set to drop to 75g/km from 1 July 2013. The change will remove almost all internal combustion engines from exemption.
There are two Alfa Romeo MiTo models currently on the market which emit less than 99h/km; these are the 1.3 JTDM-2 85 bhp diesel and the 875cc TB TwinAir 85 bhp petrol. Any vehicles currently registered or registered before June 28 will benefit from the three year transition period which runs until June 2016.
What this actually means in monetary terms is that drivers who travel into the Congestion Zone on a daily basis could make annual savings of up to £2,520 which equates to £7,560 over the course of three years.
The Head of Brand for Alfa Romeo UK, Damien Dally, had this to say: “Despite the changes, Alfa buyers can still benefit from Congestion Charge exemption and save more than £7,500 over three years if they register before 28 June. Alfa’s sub-100g/km MiTo range combines fun performance with frugal efficiency wrapped up in one of the safest – and most stylish – models in the class.”
