This extraordinary-looking vehicle offers a glimpse of the future of motoring, apparently.

It's called the Extra Terrestrial Vehicle (ETV) and is the work of a US car designer by the name of Michael Vetter. Vetter, or Kit Car Mike as he is also known, runs The Car Factory in Florida and has built seven of these things, one of which is on display at the London Motor Museum in Middlesex.

Underneath the Buck Rogers bodywork, the ETV is a run-of-the-mill Chevrolet with a 2.0-litre supercharged four-pot engine which delivers 270bhp to the front wheels.

However, it's the car's exterior which is most remarkable. You get an enormous five-foot windscreen, remote control-operated gullwing doors and no ground clearance whatsoever -- we wouldn't like to try crossing a humpback bridge in this thing.

Vetter said: "I was unprepared for the initial response I would get while driving it but I would say I get five times as many people photographing it than if I was in a supercar.

"If you think a Bugatti Veyron gets a lot of attention, be prepared for something of a different flavour as this brings in so much positive energy."

The ETV costs £75,000.
