Audi has unveiled a hot version of its A1 hatchback which is faster than an Audi R8.
The car has the same 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit that resides in the RS3 and TT RS. However, the turbo, intercooler and exhaust have been beefed up and the result is 495bhp and 487lb/ft of torque. 0-62mph happens in a scarcely believable 3.7s and an electronic limiter pins the top speed back at 155mph. The A1 also comes with a proper six-speed manual ‘box that sends the power to all four wheels.
Unfortunately, the A1 will never see production – it’s VW’s annual gift to its fan base, besides from being a promotional tool for the new S1. However, apparently many of the styling tweaks on this car will see the light of days on the new S1.
