This Mercedes G Wagen has been around the world the equivalent of twenty times, covering over half a million miles.

It belongs to Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine from Germany. When the Berlin wall came down in 1989 they decided that, instead of hanging around listening to the lame caterwauling of a certain Mr Hasselhoff, they'd much rather go on an 18-month tour of Africa in their Merc.

Twenty-three years later, having been just about everywhere, the G Wagen is still going strong and, most amazingly of all, it has never had a serious mechanical breakdown.

The G Wagen -- which Holtorf has named Otto -- is fitted with cooking and sleeping facilities, making it the ultimate go-anywhere off-roader.
