A Bugatti Type 51 which has been left to rot in a garage for nine years is expected to fetch more than £100,000 at auction, despite being a fake.
That's right. The Bugatti in the pictures is actually no such thing, but a replica built in the 1980s.
It was bought by engineer Alan Riley in 1987, who was under the illusion that it was the real thing. Having said this, if Riley really had been convinced he'd bought a genuine Bug, surely he wouldn't have left it to suffer the ravages of automotive decay in a rubbish-filled garage.
It's a pretty convincing forgery, and is fitted with the same supercharged 2.3-litre straight-eight as the genuine article, producing more than 180bhp.
It's a pity it's not genuine too -- an authentic Bugatti Type 51 would sell today for around £2 million.
