Volkswagen Golf Plus Overview

The current Golf Plus comes with engines ranging from 1.2 litres to 2.0 litres which offer a fuel economy ranging from 44.0 mpg to 66.0 mpg.

There is also a Golf Plus Dune which is ultimately an off-road version of the Golf Plus available in front-wheel drive configuration.

Background

The Volkswagen Golf Plus was introduced to the market at the end of 2004, during the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Golf; the Golf Mk5.

The Golf Plus looks similar to the Golf even though most of the body panels are different. The chassis and wheelbase are identical. The differences are an increased height, doors that provide better accessibility and more luggage space.

It was designed to be more spacious and versatile than the original Volkswagen Golf without sacrificing the performance quality of the original Golf. The Golf Plus is aimed at buyers who want something larger than a Golf but not an MPV or estate.

The amount of extra space being offered is not much, and if you really desire more space, a small people carrier or small estate will probably be a better choice.

Summary

The Golf Plus is not a bad car, it drives well, similar to the Golf, and has been built to Volkswagen's high standards. The amount of additional space on offer is minimal and rival brands offer as much or more for much less.
