The Toyota Verso T Spirit 2.2 D-4D 5dr is very expensive for what it is. At this price you could have a Ford Galaxy which is a much bigger and more practical car. The cheaper Versos make much more financial sense.

PROS:  The Verso T Spirit is very practical and comes with a decent amount of safety kit.

CONS:  The main downside of the Toyota Verso T Spirit 2.2 D-4D 5dr is its interior, which isn’t as roomy as some of its rivals. Considering the price tag, refinement isn’t what it should be and it would be nice to have a little more legroom in the rear pair of seats.

Behind the Wheel

The Toyota Verso T Spirit 2.2 D-4D 5dr is certainly quicker than some of the other models in the range. The 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 148bhp and an impressive 351lb-ft of torque mid-way through the rev range. This means 62mph arrives in a fairly decent 10.1 seconds and flat out you'll be going 121mph.

The steering is very light and while this makes the Verso very easy to drive, it offers very little in the way of driver feedback. The suspension is good on all but the roughest roads but there is a lot of wind and road noise in the cabin at higher speeds.

Looks & Equipment

Yawn. How do Toyota make their cars look so dull? The Verso isn't a bad looking car and, to be fair, excitement and good looks are not what it was designed for but it's instantly forgettable. The interior isn't much better although it feels well made and robust.

The T Spirit comes equipped with air con, electric door mirrors, and electric front windows, power steering, a rear-view camera, a CD, cruise control, Bluetooth, immobiliser, Sat-Nav and alarm.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Toyota TR 1.6 V-Matic (7 seat) 5dr scored the maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests and should therefore be a very safe car to drive.

The Verso comes with a five-year warranty but the 2011 J D Power Survey rated the Verso's reliability as no better than average which is disappointing.

The Toyota Verso TR 1.6 V-Matic 5dr’s middle set of seats can be folded, slid and reclined easily. The boot is quite small at 155-litres with all seven seats in place but by removing the rear seats you get an impressive 1645-litres of room.

Value for Money

The Toyota Verso T Spirit 2.2 D-4D 5dr is priced at £25,945 which is quite a lot of money for a Verso. You can get a large MPV such as a Ford Galaxy for this sort of money and it's hard to justify the Verso's cost.

However, running costs should be low. You should manage 41m.5mpg (combined) and CO2 emissions of 178g/km means relatively reasonable road tax costs under band I.
