Suzuki Alto Overview
The Suzuki Alto’s punchy power delivery and narrow construction help it to find gaps bigger cars will miss in town - and the engine sounds surprisingly good when revved hard.
Background
The Suzuki Alto was first introduced in Japan in 1979 as a city car that combined fun, affordability and low running costs. These values remain at the heart of the new seventh generation model.
The first generation Suzuki Alto was a cargo version of the Fronte passenger car and instantly became well known for its remarkably cheap buying price. The second generation model hit the scene in 1984 and was replaced by the third generation model in 1988.
The fourth generation model appeared in 1994 and ran until 1998. It was one of the first Suzuki’s to adopt a more rounded, curvy look. The fifth generation model arrived in 1998 and continued the curvaceous look. It also received a facelift in the year 2000.
The sixth generation model was introduced in 2004 and was built with affordable pricing in mind, it was replaced by the seventh generation model in 2009. There is also an eco variant of the seventh generation model which is capable of 71MPG.
Summary
The latest generation of the Suzuki Alto is made for the urban jungle thanks to its small size and tight turning circle. It offers great fuel economy, doesn’t cost a lot to insure and comes with plenty of safety equipment as standard.
