The Twingo Renaultsport is a great little car, the latest in a long line of Renault hot hatches. It offers the practicality and low running costs of a small city car and offers good performance figures too. There really is very little to dislike about the Twingo.

PROS:  The Twingo Renaultsport 133 delivers great performance, looks fantastic and is superb value for money.

CONS:  The ride is a little firm and the Twingo is very noisy, especially at high speeds.

Behind the Wheel

The Twingo Renaultsport is fitted with a 1.6-litre petrol engine which develops 133bhp and 118lb-ft of torque. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. It's a good little engine and naturally aspirated so it doesn't have any turbo lag. Having said this, it lacks urgency low down in the rev range and you have to work it quite hard to get the best from it.

The Twingo handles well thanks to a stiff chassis and good suspension which, while firm, provides a relatively comfortable ride. The steering is quick and direct.

Looks & Equipment

The Twingo Renaultsport looks great thanks to a number of styling tweaks which distinguish it from the standard car including a rear spoiler. The interior is similarly sporty and looks great too.

Standard equipment includes a CD player with MP3 connectivity, air conditioning and electric windows. Optional extras include climate control (£285), metallic paint (£455) and cruise control (£260).

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Twingo scored four stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests. Front and side airbags are fitted as standard along with stability control and beefier brakes which should bring you to a halt more efficiently.

The Twingo is a fairly practical proposition with 230-litres of boot space on offer with the rear seats up and 959-litres with the rear seats down.

Renault don't have the best reputation for reliability but they have insisted that they are upping their game and that the Twingo should be more dependable than previous Renaults. You get a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty as standard.

Value for Money

At £12,960, the Twingo Renaultsport 133 is good value for money considering the car's excellent performance. It should also be relatively cheap to run and delivers a combined 42.2mpg and emits 155g/km of CO2, placing it under VED band G. Group 19 insurance is also fairly reasonable for a car with the Twingo's sporting credentials.
