PROS: The Kangoo Dynamique is the best bet for those in search of a cheap and unpretentious utility vehicle.
CONS: Image and driving experience are lacking, especially when compared to other people carriers.
The platform of Kangoo is based on that of the Renault Clio, which means that it's wonderfully agile around town. It has light quick power steering, short gearing with the help of 6-speed gears and great visibility through huge windows making it great for families.
It may be that the car isn't quite as confident as its super mini brother on the wide open road however, the short gearing means owner has to change gear regularly and the tall, thin, glassy profile can make it a little vulnerable to crosswinds. A top speed of 106 mph is good for a car of this class and is thanks to a 110 bhp power output.
Once on the move, some road noise can be heard but the suspension is soft enough to cushion the effect of rough road surfaces although there is some lean and body rolls in corners.
The huge cabin is light and airy and even taller passengers will have more than enough headroom. Legroom is also fairly spacious in the front and back and the car offers a reasonably comfortable driving position.
Other accessories exclusive to the car include passenger airbags, driver airbags, front side airbags, electric front windows, remote control central locking, electric mirrors, cruise control and an upgraded stereo system together with alloy wheels, satellite navigation and air conditioning.
The Renault Kangoo Dynamique is an ideal family car as there is ample space for accommodating five people whilst also offering plenty of storage room within the boot. The rear seats also benefit from a split-fold mechanism which allows drivers to have more options when it comes to the distribution of boot and rear passenger space.
The plush interior space inside this the Kangoo Dynamique also offers plenty of storage spaces and flexibility and this makes the car fairly versatile for families.
Alongside this, the Kangoo also offers hard-wearing wipe clean surfaces, and huge luggage bins with the whole body built to withstand a hard life on the road. Inside, it's fairly utilitarian - and thanks to those sliding side doors, it's a lot easier to access the space offering high levels of practicality and reliability.
Any further versatility depends on whether extra money has been paid for the plusher RXE model. There is also the centre three-point rear seatbelt available which really ought to be standard on the Renault model given the likelihood of 3 children being sat in the rear seats.
With residual values sitting at just over a third of the initial value after three years/100,000 miles, and with a new model costing £15,700 the Kangoo Dynamique makes a great value car.
It won't cost much to the owner to keep it moving on the road either as the servicing costs are quite reasonable with insurance falling under group 13 and road tax under band E with 140 g/km of CO2 emissions. Overall the model represents good value for money.
