PROS: The car is adequately spaced and offers a smooth and refined engine and incredibly low running costs.
CONS: The performance credentials are not great and acceleration feels sluggish.
Driven by a 1598 cc unleaded petrol engine with four cylinders and 16 valves this five seat medium sized car travels from 0-62 mph in 14.7 seconds and can attain a maximum speed of 101 mph.
The handling is fairly smooth and the 98 bhp of power provides an effortless drive even on hilly terrains. Although the forefront of the car leans a lot the suspensions and shock absorbers function well and let the car occupants enjoy pleasurable drives over most of the surfaces.
The steering wheel is placed at odd angles which may feel awkward at times to but the large windows provide excellent visibility adding more fun and pleasure to the driving. With simple and easy to operate control switches these cars provide the maximum facilities to the owners.
The style of this car is sufficient and there is a good basic range of equipment offered as standard. This includes power steering, central locking, electric door mirrors, electric front windows and a stereo with CD compatibility.
Unfortunately those after a luxurious cabin will be disappointed and a number of additional features are not available as options. MP3 connectivity, for example, cannot be added and neither can rear parking sensors, cruise control, stability control, air conditioning or climate control.
The car provides the much needed safety and security to its occupants through the presence of driver and passenger airbags however front side airbags are not an option and this limits effectiveness. Standard features include remote central locking, electric front windows and a front overhead storage compartment.
Reliability should be strong in this model and a warranty for three years and 60,000 miles is provided anyway.
Practicality is fairly high and the spacious cabin offers plenty of room for passengers, drivers and any luggage. The boot offers a hefty capacity of 675 litres even when the rear seats are in position with a total 3,000 litre capacity when they are folded down. This means there is plenty of room on offer for owners, making this car ideal for families.
Available for £12,755 one of the biggest advantages of this car is its economic value. Not only is the purchase price manageable for families but running costs are also incredibly low - with insurance premiums being particularly cheap under insurance group 2.
Fuel efficiency is unfortunately not as good, with 39.8 mpg achieved on a combined cycle. Road tax is also fairly mid range under price band G due to carbon emissions of 164 g/km.
Of course, the economic values do come at a cost and this car has a sparse interior which may deter buyers.
