The 370Z is a truly striking coupe which looks fun to drive and lives up to its image when you get behind the wheel. The ride can be fairly firm and it is costly to own, but it really is a driver's car that is great fun and responds very well to driver input.

PROS:  The driving experience from the 370Z is truly enjoyable, especially at speed. The car also looks the part and has a good level of equipment too.

CONS:  The purchase price and running costs can be prohibitive for those who are looking for sports car fun on a budget, and the automatic gearbox does harm performance slightly.

Behind the Wheel

This 370Z 3.7 V6 GT Pack Auto is a car that has been created with the purpose of being great to drive, and it certainly succeeds in this respect. The level of grip is superb and the steering responds quickly and accurately. The steering also gives plenty of feedback to the driver, due to the firm suspension, but the 370Z's firmness won't be to everyone's tastes, especially if you intend to drive this car in urban areas. The driving position is very good, and there is plenty of adjustment in the seat, but the wheel doesn't adjust for reach, and rear visibility is not as good as it should be.

With acceleration from 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds it is certainly quick off the line - only three tenths slower than its manual stablemates. The top speed has to be limited to 155mph, but one disappointing thing is that the engine noise is actually drowned out by road noise when travelling at speed.

Looks & Equipment

The 370Z 3.7 V6 GT Pack Auto offers everything you would expect from a sports car, starting with the large air intake and dynamically shaped headlights at the front, through to the small spoiler and twin exhausts at the back. The large alloy wheels complete the look and, at speed, the car is a thing of beauty. On the inside the colours are bold and the interior has a very pleasant, sporty feel.

The 370Z 3.7 V6 GT Pack Auto is very well equipped compared with the basic model, and the heated leather and suede seats are a very good quality, and add to the overall quality feeling of the car. The CD changer and cruise control are also welcome additions to the package. Satellite navigation is an optional extra at £1750, but the 370Z does come with a hands free phone kit and Bluetooth connectivity.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

No-one will try to claim that the 370Z is a practical car, with space for two people and limited luggage room in the back. There is a lot of safety equipment on offer, with airbags to protect the driver and passengers and driver aids to keep the car planted.

Nissan has an excellent reputation for making reliable cars, and the 370Z is likely to continue this reputation for excellent build quality.

Value for Money

With a list price of £34,700, it is fair to say that this isn't a cheap car, and considering that the basic version with a manual gearbox is available for under £30,000, it is hard to justify purchasing this version over the standard model, especially when you consider that the cheaper model is faster.

Running costs for the 370Z 3.7 V6 GT Pack Auto are also quite significant, with an average fuel consumption of 26.9mpg. With the 370Z in insurance group 46, the insurance costs are also going to leave a significant dent in your wallet, but depreciation is not too bad compared to some rivals. The 370Z comes with a three year or 60,000 mile warranty, and also has a three year RAC membership included with the purchase.
