Mini Hatch Overview

The Hatch is a small car and space in the cabin is limited. It will not serve particularly well as a family vehicle, although cup holders and a small boot go some way towards addressing the car’s storage issues.

The Mini Hatch is a very stylish car and delivers a fun driving experience. The hatch handles exceptionally well with responsive steering, and the large gear knob and lively shift help to enhance the ride quality even further.

The car can be a little pricey, but residual values will be rock solid. It comes as standard with an engine immobiliser and remote central locking.

Background

A development of Sir Alec Issigonis' 1959 masterpiece, the new Mini Hatch was produced in its first generation from 2001 until 2006.

This generation included four models, the One, the One/D, the Cooper and the Cooper S. Engines were available as 1.4 litres and 1.6 litres.

The car entered its second generation in 2007. It incorporates many changes, both in terms of style and engineering. The range was launched with the One, the Cooper and the Cooper S.

1.4 litre engines and 1.6 litre engines are available, petrol and diesel, and the car is equipped with a 6-speed transmission (manual or automatic).

2009 saw the release of the Mini John Cooper Works, essentially an upgraded version of the Cooper S. This model features performance brakes and tyres and a faster engine. It can reach 60mph from a standstill in 6.2 seconds.

A limited edition of this derivative, the Mini John Cooper Works World Championship 50, was also released in 2009 to mark the 50th anniversary of John Cooper’s Formula 1 World Championship victory.

Summary

It's not hard to see why the Mini has been such a sensation. The Mini Hatch is not only a stylish and classless mode of transportation, it is also very fun to drive and handles incredibly well.
