The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic is a member of the highly desirable Evoque range. As you would expect from the company it has serious 4x4 credentials, but it is as an accomplished cruiser where it has received plaudits for being a comfortable and rewarding drive. Its stunning looks and favourable running costs may make BMW X3 and Audi Q5 drivers envious.

PROS:  Highly desirable, due in no small part to its looks. Low running costs and ride quality make it an attractive purchase.

CONS:  If you're looking for performance, there are sportier 4x4s out there.

Behind the Wheel

As a driving experience, the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic compares very favourably with its competitors in the medium 4x4 class. It is powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, 16-valve diesel engine which produces 190bhp at 3500rpm, and torque figures of 309 lb-ft at 1750rpm.

Top speed is 124mph, and 0-62mph is achieved in an unexceptional 10 seconds, but it is when cruising that the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic excels. The 6-speed manual gearbox is smooth and effective at coaxing the power from the 2.2-litre engine. The ride is quiet when cruising at 70mph, and the ride is firm but comfortable.

The Range Rover Evoque SD4 is surprisingly agile, especially given that the steering is not particularly involving. The ride quality is aided by the presence of dynamic stability control as standard, and the Range Rover Evoque retains off-road credentials the match or better of its rival in the small/medium 4x4 class.

Looks & Equipment

The Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic is an undeniably handsome car. Its well-proportioned grille and lights mated with its flared wheel-arches result in high cheek-boned, filmstar looks. It is possibly the most striking styling in its class, even in 5-door form. The rising waistline that runs along its flanks don’t exactly assist visibility when negotiating tight spots, but do dovetail nicely with the rest of the design.

Dynamic is one of three trim levels available on the SD4, and ensures the model comes with an impressive list of standard features. Power steering, central locking, dynamic stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats, driver airbag, passenger airbag, front side airbags, alarm & immobiliser, CD player, MP3 connectivity, bluetooth, and satnav all come as standard on the Ranger Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic.

Inside the car, the interior does feel impressive in its quality. Minor points are that the seats could be more supportive and, although five fully-grown adults can fit inside adequately, the rear is not as roomy on long journeys as it would first appear.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic scores well for safety, with an overall Euro NCAP rating of 5. This is identical to both the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.

C02 emissions of 149g/km is good for its class, and puts the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic into Road Tax Band F.

The boot capacity of the 5-door Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic is 575-litres, beating both the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.

The Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic benefits from an unlimited mileage, 3-year warranty. The build quality appears to be first class on the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic.

Value for Money

The purchase price of £37,380 for the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic is competitive with the equivalent BMW X3 or Audi Q5. It also trumps its rivals for fuel economy, with combined returns of 49.6mpg.

Combined with its lower CO2 emissions, the running costs for the Range Rover SD4 Evoque are better than most in its class.

Indications are that the Range Rover Evoque will maintain its early desirability. Another factor in the Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamics favour is its high specification and lengthy list of standard features. This can be expected to drive up the resale value when they hit the used market.
