This car definitely represents a step forward for the Superleggara, but not a dramatic one as this car is more of a refinement on previous models, rather than an evolution from them.
PROS: Keeping the highly distinctive and very desirable angular look of the standard Gallardo, Lamborghini have managed to tweak the engine to provide even better performance for the LP570-4 Superleggera, without making it too extreme to be able to handle pretty easily - very impressive.
CONS: When you get into the cramped interior of the Superleggera, it is clear that comfort was not high on the agenda for its manufacturer.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is both light and fast. Developing 562bhp at 8000rpm and with torque figures of 398lb-ft at 6500rpm the V10 engine, 0-62mph takes just 3.4 seconds, and flat out you'll be doing 202mph. This is definitely an out-and-out supercar that is built for speed, but having said that, it does not feel as extreme to drive as the previous Superleggera, as it has a suspension system capable of giving you a noticeably smoother ride. It is also 4 wheel drive, meaning that you do not have to be too picky about where you take this Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.
The e-gear automatic transmission may not be state-of-the-art, but it still manages to do a pretty good job of keeping the acceleration smooth all the way up to top speed.
It is a very agile car to drive, with handling which cannot really be faulted.
The Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera has the flamboyant looks you would expect from Lamborghini, the build quality seems to be very high, and you really get the feeling of a pure supercar when you step inside. There are some nice features fitted as standard too, such as rear cameras to go along with the rear parking sensor, as well as climate control, stability control, and all the other features you would expect from power steering through to an immobiliser.
The high running costs along with the distinct lack of space inside mean that this is definitely a fun car and not a practical car.
The car manages just 16.0mpg, meaning that a full tank will not take you far. Unsurprisingly it is also in the top insurance group of 50.
But it is a very well built car, so reliability should not be an issue, and you get a 4 year, unlimited mile warranty from the manufacturer.
When it comes to value for money it is easy to overlook the high running costs of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera because nobody would have expected anything different. But not so easy to overlook is the fact that the £178,560 price tag puts this car in direct competition with the Ferrari 458, which offers marginally more power and a more comfortable driving experience.
