If you are looking for an indulgent and luxurious sportscar then the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 could be the perfect car for you. Not designed to be a practical run-around for everyday drivers, the Aventador is targeted at a more specific audience and offers incredible performance figures within an attractive body.

PROS:  Appearances are striking and bold, giving the car a characteristic sporty look. The car has higher performance levels than the smaller Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and beats both the Ferrari California and the Ferrari 599 F1 on acceleration and top speeds.

CONS:  As a supercar, the Aventador LP700-4 is far from economical or practical. Carbon emissions reach staggering levels and the car falls under the highest road tax and insurance bands which give it extortionate running costs which are combined with poor fuel economy.

Behind the Wheel

Run on super unleaded fuel, this sporty car offers an exceptional power output of 700 bhp at 8000 rpm with torque figures of 508 lb-ft at 5500 rpm. Mileage is restricted to 17.2 mpg which is on the low side of average for a sportscar.

The Aventador LP700-4 also beats one of its main rivals, the Ferrari 599 F1, on almost every level. The top speed of the Lamborghini is higher with 217 mph compared to the Ferrari’s 205 mph whilst acceleration figures are also faster – reaching 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds rather than the 3.7 seconds taken by the Ferrari.

Four wheel drive gives drivers excellent control over the vehicle and the steering is precise, providing a comfortable yet secure driving experience. However, the engine lacks the oomph of other Lamborghini models and despite its loud roar fails to inspire the excitement expected from a car of this calibre.

Looks & Equipment

Both exterior and interior style is attractive within this model, offering the stunning aesthetics expected from cars of this class. Standard driving tech is fairly impressive with power steering, central locking, alloy wheels and climate control all offered.

Interior tech levels are fairly standard and the only feature really lacking is electric seat adjustment. There are multiple options for customisation available, with personalised colours and wheel upgrades available for an additional cost.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

This 2 seat model offers a comfortable drive through good driving positions. The lack of additional seating or boot space means the driver and passenger are unrestricted in terms of movement, making long drives comfortable.

An essential for those investing in such an expensive model, the Aventador LP700-4 comes fitted with driver, passenger and front side airbags as standard alongside theft deterrents designed to safeguard your precious vehicle.

The interior cabin lacks storage space which, when combined with the lack of boot, makes the car impractical for most purposes. The pedals are also off-set to the far left which can make driving awkward and view through the rear window is unsurprisingly poor.

The running costs of the vehicles are also exceptionally high, even for a supercar. Falling into road tax band M and insurance bracket 50 – the highest of both ranges – the Aventador LP700-4 has exceptionally poor green credentials with a massive carbon footprint of 398 g/km.

Achieving just 17.2 mpg on super unleaded fuel, refuelling is both expensive and frequent.

Value for Money

Whilst the reliability and prestige of the brand is a huge advantage, the high running costs and a staggering purchase price of £242,280 means the value of the car depends on how highly drivers value the Lamborghini badge. However, the popularity of the vehicle and its niche status as a supercar mean resale values are likely to remain high with limited depreciation.

Targeted solely at the supercar market, the Aventador LP700-4 is unsuitable for everyday use and is purely a recreational vehicle rather than a practical one. The 2 seat occupancy and lack of storage space means it is only suitable for short trips and expensive services will feature alongside extortionate running costs.

Overall, those after a practical and efficient car will be shocked by the low mileage and poor efficiency of this model. However, considering the car isn’t targeted at this audience it is likely to prove popular within its own class by offering great performance levels which categorise it as a true supercar and even beat its Ferrari rival.
