The Venga offers spacious practicality at a reasonable price. However, the driving experience is underwhelming and the poor ride and refinement make it uncomfortable for driver and passengers alike.

PROS:  This car feels suprisingly agile to drive, offers good value for money and has a spacious interior.

CONS:  The ride is poor, the seats are unsupportive and a lot of road, wind and engine noise finds its way into the cabin.

Behind the Wheel

The wheezy 1.4 litre engine develops 89bhp and 101lb-ft of torque, allowing the Venga to accelerate from 0-62 mph in a pedestrian 13.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 104 mph. None of the engines available for the Venga offer good acceleration but the performance is on par with most of it rivals such as the Honda Jazz. Noise from the road, wind, engine and suspension all infiltrate the cabin at higher speeds - the Venga is not a car you'd want to drive over long distances.

The Venga feels at home around town with its light steering and firm suspension making it feel nippy and agile. Unfortunately, the firm suspension also makes the ride absolutely atrocious - it feels almost as if the Venga's suspension actively seeks out bumps and ruts on the road surface.

Looks & Equipment

Standard kit is fairly decent with air-con, electric front windows, central locking, alloy wheels and a CD player all fitted as standard.

The Venga is a very tall car but, despite its strange proportions, it cuts rather an elegant profile. The interior is also stylishly appointed but the quality of the interior plastics is very poor indeed and the Venga falls well behind its European and Japanese rivals in terms of interior quality.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Venga offers a vast amount of interior space and the boot is impressive, holding 440 litres with the seats up and 1,253 litres with them down.

Space in the rear is also impressive and even taller passengers will be able to get comfortable. The amount of legroom on offer is very impressive depsite the Venga's short wheelbase and the raised roofline means that headroom is equally impressive.

Stability control, front, side and curtain airbags and active anti-whiplash head restraints are all fitted as standard and helped the Venga achieve a five star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

Reliability should also be strong and the car comes with Kia's 100,000 mile, seven year warranty as standard.

Value for Money

Priced at £11,995, the Kia Venga 1 1.4 is very reasonably priced and offers a great deal of car for the money.

You should get 45.6mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 147g/km put the Venga in VED band F, which is fairly reasonable for a car of this type. Although the Venga doesn't offer spectacular value for money, it is a reasonably cheap all-round package and shouldn't be too expensive to keep on the road.

Kia Venga 2 1.4 5dr - February 2012
The Kia Venga 2 1.4 offers the practicality of a big car in a small package. It is cheap to buy and cheap to run but the 1.4-litre engine is asthmatic and the Venga is no fun to drive.

The Kia Venga is a reasonable mini MPV that is worth considering, and the space available will appeal to many people who find that the average family car is simply not big enough. However, the per...
