The 2.0-litre four-pot petrol engine churns out 160 bhp and 251 lb-ft of torque, getting the car from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 132 mph which is very respectable for a car of this type.
The DS4 is also fun to drive with plenty of grip and very little body roll. The suspension is a bit firm but the steering is fantastic - nicely weighted, sharp and direct.
The DS4 is a very stylish car and there are a number of great features offered as standard which help to give the DS4 range its comfortable and luxurious reputation.
Standard features of the Citroen DS4 HDi 160 DSport include central locking, power steering, stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, an advanced stereo system with MP3 connectivity, a full leather interior and Bluetooth connectivity.
Sat-nav will cost you an extra £750 and the exterior can be upgraded to a metallic paint finish for £450.
Within the cabin, space is used well in the DS4 models and that means that journeys are comfortable and pleasant. The car boasts a five person capacity and there is ample room for both adults and children although taller rear passengers may need to visit an osteopath after a long journey thanks to the limited rear headroom. The part-leather upholstery helps to enhance the comfort levels and makes the car a pleasant place to be.
Driver, passenger and front side airbags are all fitted as standard to offer high levels of safety whilst an immobiliser and alarm are also fitted to protect the car from thieves. Standard features such as stability control and cruise control help drivers to stay safe on the road and make driving easier and more comfortable.
Designed as a family car, the storage space for luggage is sufficient and the boot boasts an ample 359 litre capacity even when the seats are in place. When these are folded down the available space expands to 1,021 litres.
The car also comes with a three year warranty at 60,000 miles and a service interval of 20,000 miles is recommended.
Priced at £23,950 the DS4 HDi 160 DSport is expensive for what it is.
This model is one of the more fuel efficient DS4s on sale offering 55.4 mpg. Combined with low CO2 emissions of 134g/km, this means that running costs will be very reasonable and even group 24 insurance isn't particularly high for a car of this type.
