The SRX is a large 4x4. Its crossover styling takes cues from the striking CTS, but with the convenience and space that a 4x4 offers. The car has become very popular in the US, and was Cadillac’s best selling model in 2010 and 2011, and the company is hoping the success will continue in the UK.

Those looking for a 4x4 capable of decent performance and benefitting from a stylish interior could be tempted by the Cadillac SRX 3.0 Elegance. The range of internal features is high and this mean...
Cadillac SRX Overview
The SRX is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 engine that produces 270bhp. This is the only engine option available in both the Elegance and Sport Luxury trim levels, following the discontinuation of the 2.8 litre turbocharged V6. The petrol engine provides enough power to make this large 4x4 surprisingly fast, however it does offer little in terms of efficiency.
Headroom and legroom is decent, given the cars large size, and the wide range of seating extras given as standard, such as heated seats and electronic adjustment make the SRX a really comfortable option for long journeys. The interior design is to a decent standard, and as with the seating there’s a lot of equipment as standard that would be optional extras in rival cars.
Background
The SRX is now in its second generation. The very first model was released in 2004 and production of the first generation lasted until 2009. Originally there was the option to get an additional row of seats, which enabled the SRX to seat 7 passengers. For the second generation, released in 2010, this option was removed. This is due in part to the reshaping of the model, which is now shorter and lower than the original. It is built on the GM Theta Premium Platform, which shares some components with the GM Theta and Epsilon II Platforms.
Summary
A rare sight in the UK, the SRX could be seen as a way to stand out from the crowd. Its large size makes it a practical choice for a large family and the crossover styling is Cadillac’s attempt at keeping up with the new trend of crossover 4x4’s.
