The 3.0 TDI Quattro SE is a powerful car with a refined engine and sleek Audi good looks. The cabin comes with loads of equipment as standard with the SE trim and much improves on the equipment of the basic trim. The price is good for the equipment and features and there is no need to upgrade to the S line, which only adds firm sport suspension (which is quite uncomfortable) and some sporty style additions.

The diesel engine is really efficient for a car with an engine this big and CO2 emissions are kept fairly low. The hatchback has plenty of room for passengers and the four-wheel-drive makes handling better than the other two-wheel-drives A7 models.

PROS:  The 3.0 TDI Quattro is a powerful car with good stability thanks to the four-wheel-drive and the diesel engine is very efficient.

CONS:  The suspension and the steering leave a little to be desired.

Behind the Wheel

All the A7 cars are powerful hatchbacks even with the smaller engines in the range. The car has good grip, especially with the four-wheel-drive option, but the suspension can be quite firm. The steering can be a bit unresponsive.

The engine is 2967cc and uses diesel fuel with a fuel tank capacity of 65 litres. There is a seven-speed S Tronic automatic gearbox, which provides smooth acceleration.

The engine is refined and the hatchback has next to no road or wind noise, thanks to the acoustic wind shield.

The 3.0 TDI Quattro SE has a 201bhp engine delivering 332lb-ft of torque at 1250-3000rpm and reaches 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 146mph.

Looks & Equipment

The interior of the A7 is well-designed and high-quality, living up to the reputation of Audi as a stylish manufacturer.

The seat and steering wheel adjust comfortably and the dash is free from clutter and well organised. Rear view visibility is not great due to the high set rear.

The 3.0 TDI Quattro SE comes with leather seats, power steering, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, cruise control, climate control, stability control, rear parking sensors, alloy wheels, MP3 connectivity and stereo as standard with optional extras including metallic paint for £750.

For fuel economy, the A7 has a start/stop system and electromechanical power steering as standard, which allows for great efficiency and low CO2 emissions.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The A7 comes with all the safety equipment you would expect in a high-quality car including driver, passenger and front side airbags, alarm and immobiliser as standard. It has stability control to prevent accidents and anti-lock brakes. There are also front and back ISOFIX child seat mounting points and options to fit adaptive xenon headlights, lane-departure, a rear-view camera and blind-sport warning systems.

Audi’s recent record in reliability has been slightly negative, but the A7 should prove to counter this as one of the top end models in their range of cars.

The boot is fairly sizeable offering 535 litres with the seats up and 1390 litres with the seats down. The A7 Sportback has got plenty of room for front and back passengers in terms of both head and leg room.

Value for Money

The running costs are good with the A7 and CO2 emissions are fairly low. The 3.0 TDI Quattro SE model costs £45,440 and has a combined economy of 48.7mpg and CO2 emission rate of 152g/km.

The diesel engine is highly efficient, even for an engine this size and with the four-wheel-drive option. You get loads of kit as standard, even with the basic trim and the A7 is a quality car that should prove good value for money.

The SE trim is much better value for money than the S line, as it comes with all the same equipment as the pricier S line trim, which only adds the firmer sport suspension and a few style changes.

The resale value on the A7 Sportback is great so it is a worthwhile investment. Audi promise good service and reliability as well.
