Pagani has unveiled the latest incarnation of its legendary Zonda supercar during the latest 'Vanishing Point' Pagani get-together in Italy.

The £2.2million track-only Zonda Revolucion is based on the Zonda R; however, Pagani's engineers have trimmed 34kg off the car's kerbweight and screwed another 49bhp from car's 6.0-litre Mercedes AMG V12.

The upshot of this is that the Revolucion weighs just 1,070kg -- about the same as a supermini -- but produces 789bhp and 538lb-ft of torque. Pagani has yet to reveal the Revolucion's performance figures, but considering that the standard R takes 3.0 seconds to reach 62mph and will do 233mph flat out, we're expecting it to be quick.

In addition to the extra power, Pagani has also given the Revolucion a six-speed sequential gearbox which it claims can change gear in 20 milliseconds, which is around 1/20th of the time it takes for a human being to blink. The Zonda also gets a new 12-stage traction control system, new ABS and a set of huge F1-derived carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes which are not only resistant to fade but 15 per cent lighter too.

Pagani has also given the Zonda a range of aerodynamic upgrades, including new deflectors on the front bonnet and a vertical stabiliser on the rear wing. The car also gets an F1-style DRS (Drag Reduction System) which can be activated by the driver at any time via a button on the steering wheel.

The Revolucion is designed to be the last hurrah for one of the most evocative names in the business; however, it's not the first time Pagani has unveiled an 'ultimate' version of the Zonda. For years now Pagani has been unveiling new models of the Zonda and claiming that each new model is the last of the breed, so we wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a new model out later this year.

Pagani boss Horacio Pagani said of the car: "We knew that Pagani Zonda R was already a fast car, the fastest ever on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. We knew it would be very difficult to design and build a car that was even more extreme.

"But thanks to the creativity of our designers, engineers, and the whole Pagani family, we created a beautiful object and the fastest Pagani vehicle ever. A car that I am sure will electrify all our customers and fans all over the world."

If you fancy getting behind the wheel of what is perhaps the world's greatest trackday car, you'll have to act fast: Just five Revolucions will be made and four of them have already been sold. Oh yes, and they're 2.2 million Euros a pop.
