Toyota is recalling 5,409 Yaris and Verso-S models in the UK due to a potential fault with the cars' power steering.

The recall affects Yaris and Verso-S models manufactured between November 2010 and March 2012. Around 174,000 vehicles are thought to be affected globally.

The manufacturer claims that should the problem occur, the power steering would become heavier, especially at low speeds. A warning light on the dashboard and a beeping sound will follow this.

Four incidents of this happening have occurred in the UK; however, Toyota is quick to point out that no accidents have been attributed to this problem.

Customers can check whether their vehicle is affected by using the registration look-up function in the owners' section of the Toyota website or, alternatively, by calling Toyota Customer Relations on 0800 1388744 or 01737 367600.

Toyota will be contacting owners in the coming weeks to have the work done at their nearest dealership, claiming the work will take between one and two hours to complete.
