Have you ever been leafing through a Bugatti brochure and thought "I wish there was a car which was more expensive than, but slower than, a Veyron?" No, us neither.
But on the (admittedly infinitesimally small) off-chance that such a thought has entered your mind, we have two pieces of news for you. One, you're completely, incurably insane; and two, your prayers have been answered.
This is the LykanHypersport, a £2.2m Lebanese hypercar which is set to become the world's most expensive car when it goes on display at the Qatar motor show this week.
As you can see from the photos, the LykanHypersport is an unprepossessing thing -- an unholy mish-mash of Lexus LFA and Audi R8 which was clearly designed by a man with a fetish for straight lines.
Underneath the car's angular bodywork you'll find a mid-mounted twin-turbo flat-six engine which develops 750bhp. This is enough to rocket the LykanHypersport to 62mph in 2.7 seconds (by contrast, the significantly-cheaper Veyron manages it in 2.5 seconds) and on to a top speed of 242mph (25mph slower than the Bugatti).
But the performance figures only tell half the story, as the secret to the LykanHypersport's appeal/lack of appeal (delete as applicable) lies in the details. On the inside, you get a 3D holographic dashboard display and leather seats which are, we kid you not, stitched together with gold thread. On the outside, you get suicide doors and LED lights which are encrusted with more diamonds than Puff Daddy's lavatory seat.
So, if you happen to be the offspring of a Middle-Eastern oil baron and fancy buying yourself a new set of wheels, the LykanHypersport could be the car for you. But you'll have to act fast as the manufacturer only plans to build seven of the cars this year.
