Jaguar claims to have produced the best driver’s car in the mid-size saloon segment.
The new XE will be available to order from the 2nd October and the pricing structure will start from £26,995 on the road. Jaguar says that qualities such as its lightweight construction, great handling and luxury interior are in keeping with the vision of the company’s founder, Sir William Lyons who aimed to make cars which were ‘the closest thing we will ever create to something that is alive’.
The new model will use an aluminium intensive monocoque which provides great strength whilst keeping the overall weight down. The reduced weight contributes to an impressive level of fuel efficiency; its diesel engine will be capable of achieving 75mpg and 99g/km of CO2.
The petrol engine will be taken from the Jaguar F-TYPE, a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 which will take the XE-S from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds.
The head-up display will make use of laser projection technology to produce sharp images which can be seen even in direct sunlight and a forward facing camera will sit behind the windscreen and monitor 3D images of the road; these images are used to provide safety features such as emergency braking and lane movement warnings.
