Subaru’s advanced collision avoidance system, EyeSight, has helped the Outback collect a coveted safety accolade.

The Subura Outback has been named as a Top Safety Pick+ by the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), due in no small part to the EyeSight system which is fitted to all UK spec models with the Lineartronic CVT gearbox. Subaru described the technology as a ‘second pair of eyes’ for the driver, using stereo colour cameras to monitor the road ahead for potential hazards. EyeSight combines Pre-collision Braking, Pre-collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure & Sway Warning, Pre-collision Steering Assist and Lead Vehicle Start Alert programmes.

The Outback passed the IIHS tests with flying colours, adding this latest plaudit to the 5-star Euro NCAP crash safety mark achieved earlier this year and enabling the model to lay claim to top-rated safety awards on both sides of the Atlantic.
