New figures released by Skoda show the brand enjoyed a record breaking year in 2014, selling over a million cars for the first time.

The early indications are that this year will also be a success for the company, with 163,000 Skodas delivered in the first two months of 2015. The recent unveiling of the new Fabia and flagship Superb models - due for sales launch this summer - could see the brand build on that success, with other new models expected to follow later including the new Octavia RS 230 and the Fabia Monte Carlo.

Of the 1,037,200 Skodas sold in 2014, more than a quarter were in the developing Chinese market, helping the brand to more than double its operating profits for the year. The success enabled Skoda to increase its share of the worldwide car sales market to 1.4 per cent.

Skoda Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dr. H. C. Winfried Vahland, said: “2014 was another good year for Skoda. By delivering more than one million vehicles for the first time in a single year, we have sustainably established ourselves as a volume manufacturer on the international markets with our modern model range. After crossing the million mark, 1.5 million seems a whole lot closer.”
