Skoda has revealed images of an estate version of the new Skoda Rapid, called the Skoda Rapid hatchback.
The Rapid Spaceback will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, while its European launch is scheduled for October.
As you can see, from the front of the car to the C-pillars, the Rapid looks identical to its three-box stablemate, but from that point backwards the standard car's notchback rear end is replaced with an estate-like tailgate.
One of the Rapid Spaceback's stand-out features is a large panoramic glass roof which is available as an option and which is separated from the rear window by a black spoiler. A black rear diffuser is also fitted as standard.
Although the Rapid Spaceback shares the standard car's 2,602mm wheelbase, the estate is 180mm shorter than the hatchback. But despite this, Skoda claims that interior space has not been compromised. In fact, Skoda claims that with 64mm of rear legroom and 980mm of headroom, the Rapid Spaceback's interior space is class-leading. Boot space is 415-litres with the rear seats up and 1,380-litres with the rear seats folded down.
Engine-wise, the Spaceback range mirrors the standard Rapid range, with four petrol engines and two oil-burners on offer. Power outputs range from 74bhp to 120bhp, while the most frugal model in the range, the GreenLine 1.6-litre diesel, will return 62mpg and emit just 99g/km of CO2.
Prices for the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback have yet to be announced; however, we'd expect the new car to carry a slight premium over the hatchback, with prices starting from around £13,500.
