Peugeot is ramping up production of its new 308 at its Sochaux plant to cater for increasing demand for the car, the French manufacturer has announced.

An extra night shift will be introduced at the factory in June, creating 600 jobs in the process.

Peugeot has already taken over 60,000 orders for the 308, which was launched in Europe late last year and in the UK in January. Earlier this month the 308 was named European Car of the Year 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show, fending off competition from the likes of the BMW i3 and the Mercedes S-Class.

Production of the new 308 SW is also now underway at the Sochaux facility ahead of the car's launch in April.
