Nissan and FedEx have shown their commitment to environmental sustainability with an ambitious project.

In a ground breaking journey, a FedEx Express messenger drove the Nissan battery powered zero emission e-NV200 prototype van through the streets of the English capital, finishing the journey by arriving at the Red Cross Headquarters in London.

During the event, donations were delivered via both Nissan employees and a corporate philanthropic donation from FedEx Express.

UK's best performing LCV brand

Nissan recently announced a remarkable 174% increase in sales of its light commercial vehicle (LCV) range in 2011, compared to figures from 2010. Retail increased by 203% and fleet sales also experienced a significant rise. These outstanding results made the car manufacturer the best performing LCV manufacturer brand in the UK.

Up to 10,854 commercial vehicles were sold last year, which equates to a 4.2% share of the LCV market. This represents a great improvement if the data is compared to 2010, a year that saw 6,223 sales and a 2.8% market share.

According to the car maker, three specific vehicle models helped to achieve these sales results in 2011. These were the Primastar, which grew by 201% and saw vehicle sales of 1,410; the NV200, selling up to 2,920 and experiencing a 191% increase; and the Nissan Navara, the most in-demand model that registered up to 6,291 sales and a year-on-year increase of 187%.

"A great hunger and performance from our dealer network, in particular our 57 business centre dealers, some excellent retail finance offers and a renewed interest in the Nissan LCV range from the fleet sector can all take credit for this excellent sales growth," commented Francis Bleasdale, Nissan Motor GB's LCV Sales and Marketing director.

On top of this, figures from sales in January reveal that Nissan started 2012 by gaining 5% of the market share.
