So, here it is.
This is the new McLaren P1, the spiritual successor to the legendary F1 supercar of the 1990s.
McLaren claim that, when designing the P1, they had one aim: to make the best driver's car in the world on both the road and track. And judging by the quality of their less expensive and less powerful MP4-12C, we'd be highly surprised if they didn't achieve this goal.
However, unlike its forebear, the P1 is not designed to be the fastest car in the world. McLaren decided that, instead of challenging the Bugatti Veyron for out-and-out performance, they'd concentrate on making the P1 "the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit."
The P1 is expected to cost £800,000 but, with a planned production run of only 500, getting your hands on one might be tricky, even if you have the cash. By contrast, McLaren sold only 106 F1s before pulling it out of production.
Unfortunately, the pictures you see above are pre-production design snaps and it'll be next year before we get to see photos of the final thing.
The one question that remains is: Will the P1 be as good as the F1? Because, if it is, it could just be the greatest car ever made.
The P1 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next week.
