The last of the current-generation MINI Hatch has rolled off the production line at the company's Oxford factory.

With production of the new 2014 MINI Hatch underway at the plant, MINI has taken the opportunity to celebrate the outgoing model, which has been in production since 2006.

1,041,412 examples of the outgoing MINI Hatch have been produced in Oxford since the current model went into production, with more than 2.4 million MINIs having been sold since the brand was launched back in 2001.

The Mk2 MINI saw the introduction of turbocharged engine and a raft of suspension enhancements, as well as improved fuel economy and performance over the original 2001 model.

The new MINI Hatch is due out in 2014 and will be based on BMW's new UKL1 platform, which will underpin the entire new MINI range.
