Audi are to showcase the potential of driverless technology in spectacular fashion this weekend.

They will use the Hockenheim finale of Germany’s Domestic Touring Car (DTM) championship to stage one of the most extreme demonstrations of the technology to date.

In a live broadcast on Sunday 19 October, a driverless Audi RS 7 Sportback will drive autonomously around the challenging circuit guided by sophisticated sensors and the latest on-board technology, with preliminary tests indicating that a lap time of just over two minutes and speeds of up to 149mph could be achieved.

The event will be broadcast live on Audi’s internet channel, Audi MediaTV, from 12:45pm on the day.
