The driver of a BMW has caused carnage after losing control of his vehicle during a police chase in Essex.

Behind the wheel of his dangerously powerful M6 Coupe, the 27-year-old man crashed through five front gardens along a quiet residential street in Thundersley.

The incident occurred at around 9.20pm on Friday evening after the driver failed to stop for police. He initially ploughed through two front gardens and crashed into a white Ford Transit van after losing control. Consequently the van ended up in another neighbouring garden, sending debris flying into the air which landed on a Mercedes parked four doors away.

The chaos was far from over however, with the BMW writing off several other cars after flipping over in the air. It eventually landed and came to a halt in another front garden. Quite amazingly nobody was seriously injured.

Police closed the road for five hours to investigate the matter fully.

Locals have described the wreckage as looking like a scene from a Hollywood film.

One resident, Lynn Casey, had this to say when speaking to the Daily Mail: "We were watching an action movie in surround sound at the time so when we heard this great bang we thought it was in the film.

"It wasn't until we came out for a cup of tea and saw all these blue flashing lights everywhere and the carnage outside that we realised what happened.

"We feel so fortunate the car didn't go through the house. If all our cars hadn't been in the way or it had come in at a different angle it could've gone through the house. I'm so surprised no one was hurt."

Since Friday the alleged driver, Kevin Austin, has been charged with dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and driving without a licence or insurance.
