Diesel Car magazine has named the Citroen DS3 as the 'Car of the Year 2011'. However, the motoring publication gave prizes to many other vehicles, including the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 and Jaguar XF.

More than 300 new vehicles were assessed in the annual awards ceremony. The candidates were judged according to ten different categories.

Among all the vehicles which were looked at, the Citroën DS3 landed the main prize. The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 - the first diesel hybrid - was awarded Best Eco Car 2011, while Ford won both the best medium car and large car awards, with the Focus and the Mondeo respectively.

For the fourth year in succession, the Jaguar XF took home the prize of 'Best executive car'. Land Rover also had cause for a repeat celebration, receiving the 'Best 4x4' award for the second time for its Discovery 4.

British winners

Nissan's UK manufactured Qashqai vehicle took the accolade of 'Best medium car', while the BMW 5 Series took the 'Best executive car' award.

The 'Best eco car' title was taken by the Toyota Prius while drivers who are fans of a speedy trip on UK roads may be keen to hear that the Audi TT was named the magazine's 'Best sports car'.

Editor of Diesel Car Magazine, Ian Robertson, said that there has been a lot of new talent arriving on the scene in the past twelve months, despite the difficult market conditions.

"I'm so pleased to be able to announce that the Citroën DS3 is Diesel Car's 'Car of the Year 2011'. Not only is it extremely talented on the tarmac, it looks fantastic, suits most pockets and is nicely kitted out. It's the perfect car to make you feel good about yourself," said Robertson.
