Bentley will not be making a convertible version of the Mulsanne, company CEO Wolfgang Schreiber has said.

The Bentley Mulsanne Drophead, which was revealed in front of a private audience at last year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, will not be built due to a perceived lack of demand for the car. Just 1,169 Mulsanne saloons found homes last year and Bentley estimates the number of Mulsanne dropheads it could sell would be lower than this.

Schreiber claims that while the Drophead could sell well in both the U.S. and Europe, it would be impossible to make a good business case for putting the car into production.

Plus, with Bentley taking its first steps into the SUV market within the next few years, it's likely that the company will be focussing its attentions on that, rather than attempting to diversify its current model line-up.
