Volvo XC90 customers now have more choice when it comes to in-car connectivity after the manufacturer announced the addition of Apple CarPlay to the range’s options.
Apple CarPlay will enable iPhone users to connect their device directly to the XC90’s Sensus Connect infotainment system to make and receive calls and messages, get directions, and select music without taking their eyes off the road by using the Siri voice control personal assistant.
When not on the move, the Sensus Connect touchscreen interface can be set to mirror the iPhone’s functionality, replicating the phone’s icons on the infotainment display. The system also enables access to Apple Music, Spotify, iHeart Radio, and Stitcher, amongst other music apps, as well as Volvo On Call which sees drivers able to ‘talk’ to their car remotely to check and control various functions.
Customers can choose Apple CarPlay on their XC90 for £300 on all new D5 and T6 models, and £250 on the new T8 twin engine model. Not wishing to leave out existing XC90 customers, Volvo can retrofit the system to work with the iPhone 5 with iOS 8 upwards.
The addition of Apple CarPlay coincides with a software update for the Sensus Connect infotainment system, bringing with it improvements to speech functionality, and SatNav including map updates. Volvo will be contacting XC90 owners to arrange a complimentary Sensus Connect software update.
“Apple CarPlay is an exciting addition to our XC90 range”, said Volvo Cars UK MD Nick Connor.
“It brings cutting-edge functionality and integration for owners, allowing them to access their phone’s features any way they want – be that via voice control, the Sensus Connect touch screen or the buttons on the steering wheel. Not only does this enable them to stay connected, it means they can do so safely and simply from behind the wheel.”
