Land Rover has announced a series of upgrades to its Discovery model for the 2014 model year.
Order books are open now for the new Discovery, which will go on show at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, and the first customer deliveries are expected in November.
The most obvious change to the Disco is its new front end, which includes a new front grille, front bumper, headlamp design and daytime-running lights. Two new alloy wheel designs are also on offer.
Another visual change is the substitution of the traditional Land Rover along the leading edge of the bonnet with the word Discovery. This is part of Land Rover's push to market the Discovery name as a distinct sub-brand, like the Range Rover.
Under the bonnet, the Disco remains largely the same, coming fitted with the same 252bhp 3.0-litre SDV6 engine and eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as the old model. However, Land Rover has added a stop-start system which boosts fuel economy by just over 3mpg to 35.3mpg combined, and lowers CO2 emissions by 17g/km to 213g/km.
In addition to this, the 2014 Discovery will be available with a range of new features including wade sensing, which measures the depth of water ahead using SONAR technology, along with blind spot monitoring , closing vehicle sensing, reverse traffic detection and T-junction cameras.
