Nissan are generally known for making reliable and practical cars, but the 370Z shows that they can also make sports cars, and the soft top version of the 370Z is a car that will appeal to many people, with sporty good looks that are bound to turn heads. However, the firm ride means that it isn't very comfortable and the cost of buying and owning the car will also be an issue for many people, especially in the current economic climate.

PROS:  The 3.7 litre engine delivers true sports car performance, the car is very attractive, and this version comes with a few more luxuries than the standard version of the 370Z.

CONS:  The purchase price is fairly high, especially when compared with the basic model, and the driving experience isn't quite as much fun as with some of its rivals.

Behind the Wheel

The removal of the the 370Z's hardtop does affect the 370Z Roadster 3.7 V6 GT Pack, and the loss of stiffness in the bodyshell can really be felt. The firm ride also means that all of the bumps and potholes on the road are felt. The car handles quite well with steering that gives plenty of feedback, and you never feel as though the car is about to run out of grip even when cornering quickly. Inside the car, the driver's seat offers plenty of support and is very adjustable, but the steering wheel doesn't adjust for reach, and the visibility to the rear is not quite as good as it should be.

In terms of the engine performance, the 3.7 litre engine really does deliver good figures, with acceleration from 0-62mph achieved in only 5.5 seconds. The limited top speed of 155mph is more than enough for most drivers, but at high speeds the 370Z Roadster 3.7 V6 GT Pack is very noisy, with road noise, engine noise and wind noise all building to a crescendo.

Looks & Equipment

The 370Z Roadster 3.7 V6 GT Pack is a very attractive car, and whether you have the top up or down it still looks like a beefy sports car. The 370Z has curves and bulges in all the right places, with sleek headlight clusters and a back end that is very tidy with twin exhaust pipes. Inside, the cabin is classy and has dials that move with the height of the steering wheel, although there are an awful lot of buttons on the centre console.

There is a good level of equipment with the GT pack, with leather and suede seats and a Bose CD stereo system which is often required to drown out the road noise in the car. Cruise control and climate control both help to improve the comfort level in the cabin, and Bluetooth connectivity is also included.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The 370Z Roadster 3.7 V6 GT Pack really isn't designed for practicality, with a small boot and only two seats, but the space available is fairly good when compared with some of its rivals. The reputation that Nissan has for making reliable cars is certainly reassuring for owners, with the 370Z likely to be as reliable as the rest of the range.

The 370Z is a very safe car, and can boast a good range of airbags to look after the driver and passenger, and there are also a raft of driver aids which help to keep the car on the road.

Value for Money

One of the biggest challenges for buyers will be to justify the purchase price of £35,350, when the more basic model is significantly cheaper.

Frugality isn't one of the 370Z Roadster 3.7 V6 GT Pack's strong points, delivering fuel efficiency figures of an average 25.2mpg. The insurance costs will be high at group 47, and depreciation is also likely to be significant. The package for the 370Z is completed with Nissan's three year sixty thousand mile warranty - supplemented with three years' RAC membership - which is reassuring.
