CarSite Verdict:  3/5
This car is relatively basic in terms of additional equipment, and it only has two doors which could be an inconvenience. Its performance is not great on the road but off-road the Wrangler comes into its own. The car's CO2 emissions are damaging and it is not a cheap vehicle to run as its fuel economy and road tax are both costly. The car is however in insurance group 21, which is good.

PROS:  This small four-wheel drive is in insurance group 21, which is good, plus it seats five occupants. The car comes fitted with alloy wheels, air conditioning, Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity and cruise control.

CONS:  The CO2 emissions produced by this car are damaging and have influenced the car's expensive road tax. The car is not especially efficient to run either, so this is an expensive choice considering the car does not have climate control, electric door mirrors or leather seating.

Behind the Wheel

For a car of this build it is unsurprisingly slow as it can travel from 0mph to 62mpg in a sluggish 12.9 seconds. The car has an average power output of 197bhp, but its torque is quite powerful at 339 lb-ft.

The Wrangler is not great to drive on the road, as the ride is firm and not particularly refined. However, off-road the Wrangler delivers unrivalled performance, tackling even the toughest of terrains with consumate ease.

Looks & Equipment

The Wrangler has a very traditional 4x4 exterior appearance. It is far from stylish, but then the Wrangler is all about being a true off-roader.The interior is not particularly sophisticated, as leather seating is not provided as an option, and many of the materials used look a little cheap.

Equipment as standard with this model includes MP3 connectivity, Bluetooth, cruise control, air conditioning, electric front windows and alloy wheels.

Satellite navigation can be purchased for an additional £1,200 while metallic paint costs £500.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The car's security has been well constructed. It is fitted with central locking and an alarm.

It comes with a warranty of three years of ownership or up to 60,000 miles.

In terms of practicality this car seats five occupants comfortably but only has two-door access, which could be inconvenient for families. When the rear seats are upright there is a limited 142 litres of storage space, and when the rear seats are folded there is a 430 litres, which is limited for a four-wheel drive.

Value for Money

The Jeep Wrangler 2.8 CRD Sahara 2dr can be bought brand new for £25,995. This is expensive for a two-door four-wheel drive that doesn’t provide too much space or a vast range of equipment.

It is also expensive to run as the car performs on a standard 34.9mpg. It has CO2 emissions of 213g/km, which equate to high road tax costs.
