CarSite Verdict:  3.25/5
The i20 is a great little car but this is the dud of the range. 48.7mpg is just not good enough in a car of this size - buy the 1.2 or the 1.4 diesel instead.

PROS:  Practical, cheap, reliable

CONS:  The running costs are too high for a car of this size

Behind the Wheel

The i20 is fitted with a 1.4-litre four-pot petrol engine which develops a respectable 99bhp and 101lb-ft of torque. 0-62mph takes 12.9 seconds and the top speed is 106mph which is more than adequate for a car like this.

The i20 is fun to drive around town and feels competent on faster roads. The steering is light and direct but the ride is very firm indeed.

Looks & Equipment

The i20 is a good looking little car. It doesn't have the charm of a Fiat 500 or the elegant lines of a Fiesta but it's a smart looking vehicle.

You get a decent amount of kit included as standard on this model. Air-con, alloy wheels, electric windows, Bluetooth and a CD player with MP3 socket are all fitted as standard and you can specifty metallic paint for a further £425.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The i20 scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests thanks to its impressive range of safety kit. Driver, passenger and side airbags are all included as standard.

There's plenty of cabin space in the i20 but boot space is limited with just 295-litres on offer with the rear seats up and 1060-litres with the rear seats down.

Hyundais are generally very reliable and you also get a five year unlimited mileage warranty in case anything does go wrong.

Value for Money

The Hyundai i20 1.4 Comfort Auto 5dr is available for £12,750, making it one of the pricier i20s on sale. The question is: is it worth it?

And the answer is: no. You'll only get 48.7mpg thanks to the i20's automatic gearbox and CO2 emissions of 135g/km push the i20 into VED band E which is high for a car of this type. You're much better off going for the manual or the 1.2-litre petrol, both of which are cheaper to run.

The Korean revolution continues. The i20 is a great little car and at less than £10k, is good enough to tempt buyers away from Fiestas and Corsas. Not without its faults, but not bad at all.
