The FF represents a massive step forward for the company, combining epic Ferrari supercar performance with a luxury 4 seat interior, and a truly unique 4 wheel drive system which runs of two separate gearboxes.

Creating a larger car with 4-wheel-drive, whilst refusing to make even the smallest of compromises on performance cannot have been an easy task, but Ferrari have managed to do it with the FF.

PROS:  The Ferrari FF represents a big step for the Italian firm, offering the classic Ferrari supercar experience in a larger, more rugged model. With 4 seats and 4 wheel drive the FF (Ferrari Four) would be just as happy climbing steep mountain roads with the kids in the back as it would be on a race track. That makes the FF a truly unique car.

CONS:  They do say that you get what you pay for, and you certainly pay for what you are getting with the Ferrari FF, which is a very expensive car even considering the amazing performance it give you. Also, like many Ferraris, driving this car takes a bit of getting used to, especially as you are coming out of corners.

Behind the Wheel

When you start to drive the FF it is immediately clear that this is a larger car than other Ferraris, but what is not so obvious is the operation of the 4 wheel drive system. Rather than running off a single gearbox like other 4x4 systems, Ferrari have used their patented new seven-speed, semi-automatic transmission driving the rear wheels with a second, 2-speed gearbox bolted on to drive the front wheels. The operation of this new 4 wheel drive system is almost unnoticable, only making its presence felt when the front wheels pull you out of the corners.

The FF also grips the road remarkably well with another new development for this model - torque vectoring. This means that, when needed, the front wheels can run slightly faster than the back wheels, employing engine power to improve grip. Other traction control systems are only able to take power from the brakes to improve grip.

With a top speed of 208mph the FF accelerated from 0-62 in a blistering 3.7 seconds, thanks to the V12, 48 valve, 6262cc engine which produced a power of 650bhp at 8000rpm and torque of 503lb-ft when revved up to 6000rpm.

With over 7 years of work having gone into producing a 4x4 car with perfect weight distribution, the handling is just as good as any Ferrari, although with slightly more emphasis on traction control and slightly less emphasis on throttle control, a development which makes the FF a safer and more stable car to drive, but may not be welcomed be everyone.

Looks & Equipment

The bold shooting brake style of the FF and the increased size in comparison to other models mean that this is one car that really stands out in a crowd. Obviously a Ferrari at first glance, but yet not quite what you would expect of the brand, the looks are as unique as the dual-gearbox system. A high quality, luxury interior only adds to this.

Of course you get all the standard features you would expect, such as a high quality music system, cruise control, climate control, stability control, and rear parking sensors, but there are also plenty of optional extras to tempt you.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Practicality really is the stand out feature of the FF, giving you more seats, more space, and the ability to take on a greater range of terrains with ease compared to other Ferrari models. And with the innovative new traction control system, it is also a surprisingly safe car to drive. Also, with a 4 year unlimited mile warranty, there should be no concerns over reliability.

Value for Money

When you buy this car you buy it because you want the best and are willing to pay for it. It is substantially more expensive than competitors such as the Porsche Panamera, but it does take the 4-seater GT to a whole new level.
