The new '62' plates go on sale tomorrow and, if you're thinking of buying a new car, you might want to choose its colour carefully.
According to car valuation experts CAP, white cars hold their value better than any other colour, returning 5% more of their value than the average used car.
By contrast, blue cars fare poorly come part-exchange time and maroon cars fare worst, returning 5% less than their market value when you come to sell.
Niche and performance models are especially popular in quirky colours such as white, pink and yellow, whereas more conservative family cars are popular in more sombre colours.
The most popular used car colours, in descending order, are as follows:
- White
- Indigo
- Purple
- Pink
- Yellow
- Grey
- Brown
- Black
- Silver
- Red
- Orange
- Blue
- Gold
- Green
- Turquoise
- Maroon
