These are the first full pictures of the VUHL 05, a new lightweight track-day car from new Mexican sports car manufacturer VUHL.
The VUHL was revealed at a private event at the RAC Club in London attended by Stirling Moss and will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week when Mexican Formula One driver Esteban Gutierrez will drive it up the famous Goodwood hill.
With the 05, VUHL is hoping to take on the likes of the BAC Mono and the KTM X-Bow. It uses a 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine which sends its power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine is mid-mounted and develops 285bhp and 310lb-ft of torque, giving the 05 a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
These 05L's monocoque chassis is made from aluminium and weighs just 78kg; the car itself tips the scales at just 695kg, giving the car a power-to-weight ratio of 400bhp per tonne. The bodywork is composed of RTM reinforced plastic; however, buyers will be able to opt for lightweight carbon fibre panels instead.
Orders are now being taken for the 05 and deliveries are expected to begin early next year. The final pricing details have yet to be released but VUHL claims the 05 will cost in the region of £55,000 (excluding shipping costs and tax).
VUHL is the brainchild of brothers Iker and Guillermo Echevrria and is funded by money from blue-chip investors and the Mexican Government. The brothers' own design agency, Exte, is responsible for the design of the 05.
Iker said: "Our background means the VUHL 05 has been developed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. We were determined to create a highly intuitive machine that was both stirringly fast and immense fun to drive -- a car we ourselves would want to own."
