Volvo is to introduce the successful Drive-E powertrain to its all-wheel-drive V40 Cross Country model.
The 245bhp petrol turbo T5 engine was initially introduced into the Volvo V40 earlier this year, and from January this will also be available in the V40 Cross Country. The new power plant will be available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that comes with optional steering wheel mounted paddles for manual gear shifting.
The four-cylinder Drive-E engines have allowed Volvo to combine power and efficiency since their launch last year, and replacing the previous T5 engine in the V40 Cross Country with the new Drive-E unit sees CO2 emissions fall to 149g/km.
The new engine is one of a number of changes made to the V40 Cross Country, with noise-reducing 19-inch Damara alloy wheels with grey diamond-cut rims, a new Power Blue exterior paintwork option, as well as updated on-board infortainment and navigation systems.
Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President for Research & Development at Volvo Cars, said: “Volvo Cars is continuing to evolve the V40 Cross Country with this powertrain upgrade. The combination of the Drive-E T5 engine with AWD will give adventurous customers the power to explore, and all the control they need to be confident in all road conditions.”
