Volvo's new Drive-E line-up of engines will be available on all of its new models from May this year, the Swedish firm has announced.
The 2.0-litre Drive-E engine is already available on both the S60 and XC60 models, but from this year will be available across the Volvo range.
In the 187bhp Volvo V40 D4 manual, the new engine will return an impressive 99g/km of CO2 while returning a claimed 74.3mpg. The same engine in the V40 Cross Country will return 104g/km and 70.6mpg.
The D4 will also be available to order with Volvo's new 8-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox. With this gearbox, fuel economy stands at 67.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 109g/km (65.7mpg and 112g/km for the Cross Country).
"The outstanding take-off and responsiveness of the Drive-E engines, combined with a smooth engine sound, will make the cars even more fun to drive, without compromising on modern customers' demand for superb fuel economy and minimised CO2 emissions," said Michael Fleiss, Volvo's Vice President Powertrain."
Also joining the V40 line-up is the new 242bhp T5 FWD, which comes as standard with the Geartronic transmission. CO2 emissions have decreased to 137g/km and fuel efficiency is up to 47.9mpg.
The D4 and T5 are both available to order now.
