Volkswagen has confirmed details of its new all-wheel-drive Golf 4Motion.
The Golf 4Motion is available with a choice of two diesel engines, a 1.6-litre with 104bhp or a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI. Volkswagen claims that the smaller of the two engines will return 62.7mpg on the combined cycle, while the 2.0-litre unit will achieve 60.1mpg, making it more than 15 per cent more fuel efficient than the 2.0-litre engine fitted to the old 4Motion.
Volkswagen claims that the four-wheel drive system fitted to the new 4Motion is "the most modern and efficient of its kind in the world". It weighs 1.4kg less than the previous system and is reportedly more responsive.
All 4Motion models get electronic diff-locks on both the front and rear axles, seven airbags, ESP, daytime-running lights, air-con, all-round electric windows and a touchscreen on-board computer.
It's unlikely that the 4Motion will be offered for sale in the UK; however, the new four-wheel drive Golf Mk7 is expected to go on sale here by the end of the year.
