A 2009 advert for the Volkswagen Golf has been listed as one of the most complained about adverts of all time by the Advertising Standards Authority.

The advert, which shows a VW engineer in an elaborate fight scene battling multiple versions of himself, received 1,070 complaints when it was first shown three years ago.

The ASA later ruled that the advert could only be shown after 9pm due to the level of violence it contained. VW also issued a press statement claiming that it did not condone violence.

VW are renowned for the inventiveness of their television advertising campaigns and we think that the advert's great, if slightly bizarre.

So, as a gesture of defiance to the humourless crackpots who complained about the ad in the first place, click the image below to watch the advert in full.
